Some weather vocabulary

kuuma ilma, kuuma keli = hot weather

helle = heat, very hot weather

hellepäivä = a hot day, scorcher

helleraja = heat limit, over +25 degrees

helleaalto = heat wave

helleputki = a bout of heat

tukala olo = uncomfortable feeling

nesteytys = hydration

Onpa* kuuma päivä tänään!

= What a hot day today!

(pronounced: “ompa”)

Iha(n) hirvee helle!

= What a terrible heat!

Mä sulan!

= I’m melting!

(verb: sulaa)

Tänne sulaa!

= (People are) melting here!

= a period of time
with very high temperatures

= yellow press, “trash magazines”
