“SPOKEN FINNISH KPT”

Here’s the spoken Finnish word forms I use in this video. By comparing them with standard Finnish, you’ll build an understanding how they differ. This helps you in understanding us native Finns!

This isn’t really any official grammatical concept, but since the letters tend to change, disappear or appear out of thin also in spoken Finnish, I call it ”spoken Finnish KPT” 😊

These particular changes in speech are common all over Finland, but even more especially in the southern regions. Especially the pronouns mä and sä are mainly used in southern Finland.

spoken Finnish > formal Finnish = English

Moikka! > Hei! = Hi! Hello!

mä oon > minä olen = I am

mä annan sulle > minä annan sinulle

= I give to you

et > että = that

miten sä voit tehostaa sun oppimista

> miten sinä voit tehostaa sinun oppimistasi

= how you can boost your learning

mul on > minulla on = I have

mä harjottelen > minä harjoittelen

= I practise

eri tasosten oppijoitten kanssa

> eri tasoisten oppijoiden kanssa

= with learners on different levels

mulla on > minulla on = I have

mahollisuus > mahdollisuus

= possibility, chance

nähä > nähdä = to see

millaset asiat auttaa

> minkälaiset asiat auttavat

= what kind of things are helping

mun asiakkaita edistyy nopeemmin

> minun asiakkaitani edistymään nopeammin

= my customers to progress faster

tää on > tämä on = this is

semmonen > sellainen = a kind of

= you do not want

yks > yksi = one

yhistää > yhdistää = unites

nopeesti > nopeasti = quickly

ne ei vastusta > he eivät vastusta

= they do not object

= helps them to understand

= helps them to speak

= I ensure, I take care of

> me harjoittelemme

= we practise

yhessä > yhdessä = together

harjottelu > harjoittelu

= practise, practising

et sä vaan luet

> että sinä vain luet

= that you just read

oikeesti > oikeasti = really, for real

tosi > todella = really

ne alkaa pysyy sulla muistissa

> ne alkavat pysyä sinulla muistissa

= they start to stay in your memory

susta > sinusta = in your opinion

sun > sinun = your, yours

sillon > silloin = then

sä pystyt seuraa sun edistymistä

> sinä pystyt seurata edistymistäsi

= you’re able to follow / to track

onks susta > onko sinusta

= is it in your opinion

vaan > vain = only, just

ootsä oppinu

> oletko sinä oppinut

= have you learned

kielioppii > kielioppia

= grammar (partitive plural)

tohon alle > tuohon alle = there below

mua kiinnostaa > minua kiinnostaa

= I’m interested

mitä sä ajattelet

> mitä sinä ajattelet

= what do you think

sä voit sanoo suoraan

> sinä voit sanoa suoraan

= you can say straight out

sä voit kertoo > sinä voit kertoa

= you can tell

auttaa sua > auttaa sinua = helps you

mukavaa viikkoo > mukavaa viikkoa

= have a nice week

tsemppii > tsemppiä

= good luck & encouragement

nähään > nähdään = see you

moi moi > hei hei = bye
